New Moroxico: A Treehouse?
Dallas, Texas

Our Little Forest
During the construction phase, countless neighbors would stop by to tell me how happy and relieved they were to see I was building a COTTAGE STYLE HOME in keeping with the vibe of Little Forest Hills and not an oversized modern monstrosity.
But the truth is, unless I wanted to chop down one of the huge established trees, my hands were pretty much tied, and the modest size of New Moroxico was already predetermined.

One of my biggest pet peeves has long since been folks who buy property in this neighborhood because they love all the beautiful, enormous trees — then they CUT DOWN EVERY SINGLE TREE on the lot in order to build their house!
Talk about not being able to see the forest for the trees... Jeez!

Big Tree, Small Sacrifice
To me, sacrificing a bit of interior living space in order to save these trees was an easy decision, especially once it was confirmed I could build my lower and upper decks around the LARGEST TREE and reclaim most of that lost square footage as a show-stopping celebration of nature and outdoor living.

Coming up through the deck, the tree further blurs the line between indoor and outdoor living spaces and adds an ELEGANT PLAYFULNESS that has helped to set the tone for every subsequent design choice in all of New Moroxico.

The Family Tree
Also, let’s be honest, when your family’s nursery business has been growing, selling, and planting trees in the greater DFW metroplex for over 50 years, there’s just something really cool — ALMOST POETIC — about building your house around a big, majestic tree!
